NSW: Seniors to get homes under NSW govt funding

SYDNEY, April 30 AAP - The NSW government will invest $420 million to buy or build
2,800 new homes for the elderly over the next five years.

The project will mean there would be 30,000 houses available for older citizens across
NSW, Premier Morris Iemma said today.

The funding announcement is the first of a number of plans to deliver more affordable
housing to the elderly, he said.

"We all respect the position that seniors hold in our community," Mr Iemma said.

"This new plan will see investment in secure and suitable infrastructure to meet the
future needs of our elderly."

The plan will have a particular focus on ageing populations across NSW, including the
North Coast, Central Coast and western Sydney.

Over the next decade there would be a 36 per cent rise in demand for social housing
for the elderly, Mr Iemma said.
