QLD: Police dog stabbed, woman shot and injured

BRISBANE, Aug 20 AAP - A woman has been shot by police after a police dog was stabbed
and critically injured during an incident at a house in Brisbane.

It's also alleged the dog handler was threated with a knife and police opened fired
wounding the woman in the shoulder on Wednesday night.

A police union spokesman said the woman was under guard in a stable condition in the
Princess Alexandra hospital, but the dog remained in a critical condition after undergoing
surgery.

The shooting happened after police went to an address in Beenleigh Road in the southern
suburb of Runcorn about 9.45pm (AEST).

The union spokesman said the woman had been under surveillance by police in relation
to other matters when she allegedly rammed their vehicle from behind.

The woman, allegedly armed with knives, then ran to a house where children were present, he said.

Police followed amd "she came at police and repeatedly stabbed the police dog," the
spokesman told AAP.

Threats were then made on the dog handler and the woman was shot in the shoulder by a detective.

The police Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident, which will be overseen
by the Queensland Crime and Misconduct Commission.
