Wrapping newborn babies in too many blankets and keeping them inan overheated room may make them so hot that their body temperaturerises to a feverish level, California researchers have found.
Although the fever would be highly unlikely to actually make theinfant sick, the baby's high temperature might lead to needless testsand antibiotic treatment for bacterial infection, wrote the study'slead author, Dr. Tina L. Cheng of the University of California at SanFrancisco.
"This study confirms the impression of many doctors thatbundling can influence body temperature," said Dr. Gary Fleisher,chief of emergency medicine at Boston Children's Hospital.
