Vic: Prime Minister expected to attend MP s funeral
Federal and state parliamentarians and community leaders are expected at the funeral
of Liberal MP PETER NUGENT in Melbourne on Monday.
The 11am (AEST) service will be held at the Waverley Christian Fellowship, at Wantirna
South, in Melbourne's outer east.
Mr NUGENT died at the age of 63 after suffering a heart attack at his home early on
Tuesday morning.
He was the federal member for the east suburban seat of Aston for 11 years.
Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD is expected to attend, as are most of the government's front
bench excepting Treasurer PETER COSTELLO and Defence Minister PETER REITH.
Mr RONALDSON says a range of community groups will also be represented and he says
Mr NUGENT'S constituents should also feel very welcome.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission says all Australians concerned
about social justice for Aborigines would be saddened by Mr NUGENT'S death.
ATSIC chairman GEOFF CLARK says Mr NUGENT will be fondly remembered by all indigenous
Australians.
