Weis likes what he sees up front

The manual for how to quickly rebuild an effective offensive line still hasn't been written.

The often-recited statistic from 2007 for Notre Dame -- 58 sacks yielded by the line -- was reduced to 22 last season. While the line play was better, it was inconsistent, particularly when it came to rushing the ball. The Irish averaged just 3.3 yards per carry last season. The shaky running game put pressure on quarterback Jimmy Clausen because defenses were able to load up on the passing game.

With a new line coach in Frank Verducci, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is certain of one thing going into today's spring: His offensive line is better than it was a year ago.
