NSW: Millennium trains withdrawn from service=2
Mr Costa received a briefing from State Rail Authority (SRA) management yesterday andasked Mr Graham, who is also acting chief executive of SRA, to provide an urgent assessmentof the train today.
"It's clear from Mr Graham's report there are technical issues which could adverselyaffect the reliability of the network," Mr Costa said.
The decision removes four eight-carriage trains currently in service.
Earlier, the NSW opposition said five of the 13 trains had electrical faults whichcaused drivers to be locked in their compartments.
Opposition transport spokesman Michael Gallacher said the government was putting commuters'lives at risk by failing to disclose safety defects with the trains.
Millennium trains were first introduced to Sydney in June 2002, two years after thegovernment promised to bring them on-line.
